Dating to Display, Not Just to Date

Email : 24

You’re not dating for entertainment. You’re dating to discern if you can display Christ and the Church.

Modern dating is a vibe. Christian dating should be a vision.

If your only goal is “not being alone” or “good chemistry,” you’ll miss the point. Marriage is a living parable. Dating is the rehearsal. The question isn’t “Do we have fun?” It’s “Can we display the gospel together for 50 years?”

Marriage Is a Metaphor

Paul drops this bomb mid-marriage talk:

“Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy… This is a profound mystery — but I am talking about Christ and the church.” Ephesians 5:25-26, 32

Your future marriage preaches. Every day. What sermon are you preparing in dating?

Date someone you can serve, not just someone who serves you. Date someone who makes you holier, not just happier.

Guard Your Heart, Not Just Your Body

We talk about physical boundaries. We ignore emotional ones. Solomon said:

“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” Proverbs 4:23

You don’t owe everyone full access. Emotional intimacy without covenant is premature. It creates soul ties you’ll have to untangle later.

Move slower than your feelings. Move faster than your fears. Let wisdom set the pace.

Test the Fruit, Not the Vibe

Jesus gave the ultimate dating filter:

“By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?” Matthew 7:16

Watch how they treat the waiter. How they talk about their mom. How they handle money. How they respond when told no.

Butterflies lie. Fruit tells the truth. Date the fruit, not the filter.

Field Notes for This Week

1. Write your dating purpose. One sentence: “I date to discern if we can _____ together for God’s glory.” Fill it in.

2. Ask the vision question. On your next date: “What breaks your heart that you want to fix?” Purpose reveals compatibility.

3. Set a heart boundary. What level of emotional intimacy is wise before engagement? Decide now, not in the moment.

Closing Line

Stop dating for chemistry. Start dating for a covenant.

The world dates to consume. The kingdom dates to commission. Know the difference.
