Email : 38

A 44-year-old man, Felix Rojas, has been sentenced to five years in prison by a New York court for sexually abusing the body of a deceased passenger on a Manhattan subway train. The court delivered the judgment after Rojas pleaded guilty to the offence, which occurred in April 2025 on an R train in New York City.

According to prosecutors, surveillance footage showed Rojas approaching the victim, identified as 37-year-old Jorge Gonzalez, after noticing that he was unresponsive on the train. The victim had reportedly died after losing consciousness during the journey.

Authorities also stated that Rojas searched the victim’s pockets during the incident. Investigators said Rojas, a Brooklyn resident, surrendered to police about three weeks after the incident, following the release of surveillance images that helped identify him. He initially denied the allegations when questioned.

In addition to the prison sentence, the court ordered Rojas to undergo 15 years of supervised release after completing his jail term. Officials also confirmed that Rojas is a Mexican national who had previously attempted to enter the United States unlawfully on several occasions.

The victim, Jorge Gonzalez, had lived in the United States for nearly two decades and worked multiple jobs, including in construction and hospitality, to support his family in Mexico. The case drew public attention in the United States due to the disturbing circumstances surrounding the incident and concerns about safety on the New York transit system.
