Sleep as Spiritual Warfare

Email : 19

The enemy loves you tired. God invites you to trust Him enough to sleep.

We brag about 4 hours. “I’ll sleep when I’m dead” is on T-shirts. Meanwhile anxiety, anger, and bad decisions spike.

Sleep isn’t laziness. It’s warfare. It’s declaring “God runs the world, not me.” If you can’t sleep, you don’t have a productivity problem. You have a theology problem.

He Gives Sleep to His Beloved.

Psalm 127 exposes hustle culture:

“In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat — for he grants sleep to those he loves.” Psalm 127:2

In vain. That’s God’s review of your 2 a.m. email session.

Sleep is a gift, not a reward for finishing. You don’t earn it. You receive it. Because you’re beloved, not because your inbox is empty.

Jesus Made Disciples Nap

The disciples were busy. Ministry was exploding. Jesus’ command wasn’t “grind harder”.

“Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, ‘Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.’” Mark 6:31

Come with me. Get some rest. If Jesus enforced rest during revival, you can rest during your launch.

You make worse decisions tired than you do drunk. Sleep is a leadership strategy.

Peace to Lie Down

David was hunted by Saul. Still wrote:

“In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.” Psalm 4:8

Peace isn’t the absence of problems. It’s the presence of trust.

You sleep when you believe God is awake. Insomnia is often practical atheism: “If I don’t hold it together, no one will.”

God doesn’t sleep. Psalm 121:4. So you can.

Field Notes for This Week

1. Set a bedtime. Adults need one too. Pick it. Honour it 5 nights this week.

2. Do a brain dump. Before bed, write tomorrow’s tasks. Give them to God. “Cast all your anxiety on him.” 1 Peter 5:7.

3. Create a liturgy. No screens 60 min before bed. Read a psalm. Pray. The same routine tells your body, “It’s safe to rest.”

Closing Line

You can’t burn the candle at both ends and expect the light of Christ to shine.

Sleep is surrender. It’s saying, “God, You’re God and I’m not.” That’s worship. Go to bed.
